The Need

The Navarro County Dental Health Initiative (NCDHI) was established is August of 2010 by The Giving Neighbors (TGN), a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization. 

The initiative, working with local dentists and dental health care professional, addresses the number one health care need identified in the Navarro County Community Survey conducted for the United Way of Navarro County by UT-Arlington School of Social Work in 2007.

Initiative Focus and Neighbors in Need 

Our primary focus is on Navarro County resident applicants who require urgent and/or emergency dental care. Our initiative works with medical service providers in Navarro, Dallas, and Tarrant counties with whom we have negotiated discounts or reduced rates to provide their specialized services to our Neighbors in Need.

Our target applicants for this Initative are Navarro County Neighbors in Need who have no dental health insurance and cannot financially obtain these services for themselves. We focus on those who are in pain and/or have infection in their mouths requiring urgent or emergency care.

In many cases when infection and needed dental care goes unattended our clients cannot eat and obtain proper nutrition. Often, they are in pain constantly which impacts their ability to work or provide good care for themselves and family. Failure to deal with dental health issues can lead to severe health complications such as heart attacks or even death. 

The Giving Neighbors created, reviews, updates, monitors and administers this program. The details of the process vary depending on the individual dentist or health care provider and how they want to participate. We strive to make participation in the initative as easy as possible on our dentists and health care providers.
