We are new to Corsicana and Navarro County.  In the short time we have been here we have found such a genuine friendly and caring spirit among the people.

We are introducing the newest non-profit agency here in Corsicana and Navarro County, The Giving Neighbors.

We incorporated and received our 501 (c) 3 status in July of 2006.  At that time we were physically located in Collin County and began our work there.  We have been quietly gaining funding and awareness.  You can go to the Neighbors in Need page and see all of those who have been helped or are needing help by The Giving Neighbors. It is so wonderful to be able to help our Neighbors in Need get health issues resolved or bettered so they can get back to work supporting themselves and their families. 

Here in Corsicana we want to serve the community of Navarro County specifically.  We would like to roll out an awareness of The Giving Neighbors, making you aware of whom we are set up to serve, the services we offer and how working together with you in the community can have a positive impact.

I have participated as a volunteer on the Health Focus Group.  The Health Focus Group was established in Corsicana based on the Needs Assessment taken by the United Way.   This survey highlighted many areas in health care that need to be boosted in the community.  We feel The Giving Neighbors, with your help and support, will have a positive impact on addressing some of the issues raised in this assessment.

Everyone knows and experiences, in some way, the crisis of the health care situation in the US.  Well, we know through our experiences here, at The Giving Neighbors, people can get back to work or are enabled to stay working when health needs get met.  There are people from all walks of life who find themselves needing help at sometime to keep their families from falling apart, roofs over their heads and food in their mouths.

We ask you to join us here at The Giving Neighbors to help your neighbor.

In order to become a strong agency in our community we need your help.  Listed below are some of the ways you can help:

Volunteer to be part of the Community Formation Committee. 
     This committee will advise:
               TGN of their experiences with healthcare
               Provide ideas for how TGN can play a role
               Determine best ways to make the community aware of TGN
               Help with fundraising projects
              
Volunteer to be an Advocate for TGN.
     This includes training in the techniques of an advocate:
               How to process a clients application and review for acceptance
               Researching options for the client
               Learning how to call on medical service providers
               Facts and techniques for negotiating prices
               Providing support, information and techniques to point the Neighbor in Need in the direction to help themselves

Volunteer to be a part of the administrative team.
     This could include:
               Filing and general office duties
               Taking phone calls
               Setting up clients files
               Updating and maintaining website
               Creating, updating and maintaining a newsletter

Things we need:
     Donated office space with access to high speed internet, phone and fax lines, desk and filing space.

These are just some examples of how you can be a part of helping your neighbors here in Corsicana and Navarro County.  With your participation we will certainly grow and serve this community in a unique and effective way.
